A Note from Our Founder
I think the hardest thing to do is to talk or write about yourself, but bear with me as I recount the whirlwind that birthed Haus of Havilah. My name is Berica Robinson and I am the founder of Haus of Havilah.
It all began with a thought….can sustainability and luxury co-exist, more importantly, can it thrive and innovate within the home goods industry? This million-dollar question ignited my exploration into creativity. Soon after I found myself creating home decor items and eventually candles. What began as a fun creative outlet, quickly turned into an exploration of fragrance, design, and practicality.
During this journey, I decided to pursue my MBA with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. It was during this time I pivoted to create The Thread, a docu-series highlighting the success, challenges, and stories of black entrepreneurs, creatives, and innovators. To be honest, The Thread was exhilarating and simultaneously draining. While I was inspired by the stories of the creatives, innovators, and entrepreneurs, I was drained because I realized it wasn’t my true passion.
It was during this time I learned, you may have the ability to successfully accomplish many things, however only the things you are called to do will fulfill you and feed your soul.
So in 2020, I decided to take some time off to clear my mind and not work on any endeavors. My only commitment in 2020 was to work on myself via therapy, travel, and just enjoy life without trying to change the world. Well, apparently 2020 had other plans. Between COVID-19, family emergencies, the murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmad Arbury, and other things, I was in serious need of tranquility and peace.
After some introspection and prayer, I was led to get back into making candles. I took a week of vacation from my job, researched toxic and cruelty-free ingredients, and Haus of Havilah was born. Experimenting with scents, waxes, etc. brings me peace. Pair that with a good playlist and I’m in my zone! My hope is that every person who purchases a product or has a Haus of Havilah experience leaves with a sense of tranquility or joy.
